If you know me, you know I am frugal as all get out. I started waxing my own eyebrows 10 years ago to save money at the salon and I took off my acrylic nails around 5 years ago and started doing my own.
My daughter asked me to take she and her friend to the nail salon not long ago and I just CAN'T. DO. IT. The last time I took her to get a manicure at the nail salon with her friend I ended up leaving $46 poorer and wondering how a $7 manicure turned into $46, but anywho... This last time I was like, "I can do your nails. I'm better at it than the salon, anyway." (LOL)
So I took to my trusty Silhouette Cameo (the best die cut crafting machine on the market and it's currently on sale for $100 off if you click HERE) and sized some hearts to 0.30x0.30 and loaded up my metallic gold Oracal 651 vinyl , set my settings to a blade 2, speed 8, and thickness 9 and cut the hearts. Although, if you don't have a Silhouette Cameo cutting machine you can click HERE to buy some super cool ones on Amazon.
I applied an Orly rubberized basecoat , which is the best basecoat on the market. (Ask me how I know ;) ) ... Well, funny you should ask -- you see, when I first began painting my own nails I went through like, every nail product brand the market has to offer trying to figure out why my polish kept clumping, smudging, chipping, etc., and all those issues came to a halt when I began using this Orly basecoat. Truth be told, I've had the same bottle for almost 2 years and I still haven't run out yet. #winning !
After allowing plenty of time for the basecoat to dry, I applied Insta-Dri Go For Gold nail polish to all fingernails except her ring fingernails and I applied Insta-Dri Red Red nail polish to her ring fingernails and let them dry completely. I cannot stress enough how important it is to let your nails dry completely in between coats.
Ask me why I use Insta-Dri....
Thank you for asking, don't mind if I do... I use Insta-Dri almost exclusively for 3 reasons. #1.) It is a one and done polish. You only need one coat and you're done. Other polishes may *say* they are single coat nail polishes, but Insta-Dri truly is and you can tell the instant you apply it. #2.) The brush size. The brush is the perfect size to where you only need to apply one or 2 swipes of polish, as opposed to the typical nail polish brushes that that you have to apply 4-5 swipes to cover the whole nail. #3.) It dries SUPER fast. When I say super fast, I mean it.
After allowing her nails to dry, I applied a Sally Hansen no chip top coat to the gold nails only. We aren't going to apply a top coat to the red nails until after the hearts are applied.
Now to the fun stuff... Let's apply those hearts!
I took my trusty tweezers (these gold precision tweezers made in Germany are my favorite),
gently peeled the gold metallic hearts from the backing, and slowly applied them to where I wanted them on her nail. We decided to place them in the corners with a little slant (cute!). You want to be careful to place them exactly where you want them the first time and try not to touch any other part of the nail...
Once you've finished placing the hearts where you want them, apply your Sally Hansen no chip top coat and let that dry. Voila! Valentine's Day heart nails! **EDITED TO ADD: Everyone wants my pink nail polish color in the last picture. It is Poptastic by Color Club. It's the only non- Insta-Dri color I use and I have literally used it almost every single time I paint my nails for the past 10 years. It used to be called Pink Flame. I'll add it to the linked products below!

Love is in the air and Valentine's Day will be here before you know it! It may seem like a long way away, but us mom's know how quickly it sneaks up. Lucky for you, we are here to prepare you for the holiday of hearts with fun Valentine's Day crafts to do with your kids and must have Valentine's Day shirts and accessories to celebrate the day in.
Let's get started....
Craft idea #1: Red slime.
If you have older kids, chances are they've already started messing around with slime recipes. The problem with slime recipes online is the constant trial and error -- it gets expensive! You have the slime that gets too sticky, slime that falls apart, and it's just hard to know which slime recipes are going to deliver the perfect consistency, so we went ahead and took the guesswork and headache out for you and found fool proof slime! This slime kit on Amazon allows you to make slime in just 3 easy steps! We upgraded to the 4 count + activator so we'd have green for St. Patrick's Day! Subscribe to our blog HERE to be notified for that blog post release + our YouTube video. Subscribe to our YouTube channel HERE. You can purchase the kit we used below.
Craft idea #2: Mini heart cakes.
I cannot even contain my excitement about these mini heart cake pans. We searched all the local craft & grocery stores and just couldn't find what we were looking for, but of course, Amazon had them for us! Click below to get yours!
Hawkins and I made these mini heart cakes last year. We like to customize them and give them to neighbors, friends and family, like people do with cookies and such at Christmastime.
Last year was a sloppy mess because we used cookie cutters to pour the cake batter in to and it ended up leaking off the sides and I had to cut around them to form the cakes and so on, so this year, I simplified things for us and grabbed these amazing cake pans. I'm going to use them for mini breakfast casseroles and more, so make sure you subscribe to our blog HERE. Stay tuned for our YouTube video making these this year and subscribe to our channel HERE. Purchase the cake pans HERE.

Craft idea #3: Heart Shaped Crayons.
As a kid, one of my favorite parties at school was the Valentine's Day party. After having kids, it's even more fun decorating Valentine boxes together and making Valentine's for their classmates. We are all about recycling and big on not being wasteful, which makes this craft perfect, because it's an excellent way to recycle broken crayons. I don't know about you, but I'm OCD, so those broken crayons that lay in the bottom of the bin -- I can't throw them away (because, wasteful), but we also can't use them, so imagine my excitement when I get to finally clean the bottom of the bin out and the kids have fun stuff to color with! I'm also that mom that is always looking for a sugar/ candy alternative, so these heart shaped crayons are perfect for that as well. As you can see, we are winning all around with this craft idea! What you'll need: - Silicone heart mold (this one is my fave):
I love this mold for its affordability and multi-use features. We use this for ice cubes too, but that's a whole other blog post!
- A sharp knife (this one is my fave?):
- And you'll need about 50-100 crayons depending on how many heart crayons you need to make.
Instructions:
Craft idea #4: Heart shaped paper cutouts.
I love this paper heart cut out craft because it is great for all ages. It's great for younger toddlers because mom / dad / caregiver can cut out the heart and have your child color or decorate the heart, and for older toddlers that are familiarizing themselves with scissors can cut out the heart with adult supervision and decorate it themselves. This is a very versatile Valentine's Day craft idea because these heart cut outs can be used as Valentine's Day cards, you can use a hole punch and tie a string to them so they can hang, so many ideas! What you'll need:
These awesome pipe cleaners come in all sorts of colors so you can use them to craft every holiday!
This is, hands down, the best washable paint for kids. It is water based and non toxic for worry free crafting!
