11 Hashtags Etsy Sellers Should Be Using On Instagram.

Some of these may sound like they have A LOT, but in comparison, they do not.  They also do not revolve as quickly as just using #Etsy, leaving your product photo to linger a bit longer in front of those searching that tag.  The Etsy hashtag alone currently has 4,012,296 posts it is tagged in.  While you should most definitely always use it when posting your Etsy items, you should include some of the smaller time tags as well.

Of course, if you love my posts & love my products make sure you're following Liv & Co. on Instagram by clicking HERE to keep up with the latest news!

What hashtags do you use on Instagram?  How has Instagram helped to build your Etsy business?  Tell us in the comments below!

Let's talk hashtags.  Many of us know what they are, some of us are clueless.  Hashtags have become so important in today's society in easily locating things that are trending, things that are for sale, and much more.  Today we will focus on the "things that are for sale" aspect & more particularly, hash tags you should be using on Instagram if you have an Etsy shop.

Instagram is a HUGE tool for your business.  Why?  Because it is photo based & it is free (as of right now).  People are using Instagram more & more as a shopping site, which is why if you don't have an account- you need to get one & if you do have an account you need to understand the importance of hashtagging.

I'm sure most of you know to #Etsy , but it's a fast moving tag so photo's tend to get lost quickly in the feed.  Below are 11 hashtags you should totally be using on your Instagram account when you are uploading your Etsy items.  I've even included a few that are linked to big time Etsy promotional accounts that love to love your stuff even if they don't feature it.  (They are ran by independent people that love to support Etsy.  They are not run by Etsy, nor are they affiliated with Etsy.)

1.)  #EtsyHunter

Etsy Hunter is an Instagram account that features Etsy shops.  This tag is how they locate items that shop owners wish to have them feature.  Plus, it's a popular hashtag that Etsy sellers search.  With 61,710 current posts it makes this hashtag just popular enough, but not enough to get lost.

2.)  #EtsyUSA

Etsy USA is another Instagram account that features Etsy shops.  They have 13.6k current followers & are growing by an average of 300 followers per day.  With 13,990 current posts you won't be drowning in the whirlpool of the "too broad" hashtags.

5.)  #EtsyFinds

Etsy finds is another popular hashtag to locate great Etsy shops & products.  Currently, there is a nice flow to this hashtag.  91,773 posts are tagged with it.

6.)  #EtsyForAll

Hashtag EtsyForAll is an upcoming hashtag gaining popularity fast.

7.)  #EtsyShopOwner

This one is pretty self explanatory, right?

8.)  #EtsySeller

You're an Etsy Seller so tag it!

9.)  #EtsyStore

'Nuff said.

10.)  #EtsySale

Running a sale in your Etsy shop?  Tell everone about it with this popular Etsy sale hashtag.

11.)  #EtsyLove

If you're looking for some extra lov'in on your Etsy product posts, tag Etsy love!

Now that  you're here, feel free to shop our amazing, handmade apparel and accessories for babies, toddlers, and adults  by clicking the photo below.

3.)  #Etsyprepromo

This hashtag is linked to the Instagram account @Etsypreneurs.  They too love to feature fab Etsy products.  They currently boast 5800 followers & growing so go follow them & get tagging.

4.)  #ShopEtsy

This is a popular hashtag for people who want to, you guessed it, shop Etsy!  This hashtag currently has 85,000 posts.  Again, enough to be reputable, not enough to get lost in.

You should most definitely notice an improvement! I pride myself on the fact that I did not have to host contests or giveaways or {gasp} pay for followers on Instagram. The good ole fashion networking worked just fine. ;) You're taking a step in the right direction. Hi Leslie! Sure, I have a few moments. From scanning over your shop I can give you a few pointer's right off the bat. Let me start by saying, my favorite product is your hemp sandals :)

#1: Your photo's. You can only have one focus point in your photos. That should be your product. What takes me aback looking at your photo's are the hearts and swirleys on the background of your barefoot sandals, the brick behind your bracelet (brick is an o.k. background if you use it properly and find a way to make it not distracting), & your pictures with feet. The background behind the feet is a problem. It needs to be white or as light as you can possibly get it. Also, if you're going to use feet, there is a very specific way I suggest doing so for maximum sale potential:
A.) Do not use feet that have tattoos or anything else that stands out too much on them (moles, veins, etc.).
B.) Make sure the toenails of the foot are matching whichever product you are displaying.
What I ultimately suggest is a jewelry stand for this type of jewelry (like the one in your photos) on a white background taken in the natural daylight and enhancing the brightness and contrast with an editing app. This should almost take the foot out completely and leave you with just your product- which is what people want to see. If you need more assistance with your photos I have a step by step tutorial on how your photos should look in my Small Business Blog Posts category of my blog.
2.) You do not have a shop description banner (this goes right under your shop banner photo). You need this. You need to utilize this space to welcome your customers, tell them what you specialize in, let them know your current turnaround time, your latest sales & coupon codes, etc. Google also scans this info. Use your keywords here too!
3.) Your shop banner photo is dull (just being honest ;) )! Rather than having your shop name very small in the middle, I would change the font to something more fun & make your shop name fit the entire size of the banner. I would put your work examples within that photo once you have re-done some of them with the backgrounds.
4.) Enhance your "About" section. It is actually a very important area. People want to know who you are. This is what sets Etsy apart from any other selling site. People want to know your situation, how you got started, your favorite tools, how many kids you have, what you like to do for fun, if you've ever been featured in blogs or on the news, etc. Tell them here. - Your policies look good. You will learn over time how you need to enhance them by the feedback you receive from customers.
5.) Your shop section labels are great, BUT you do not have many items in each category. You will need to build up your product. By building your product, you will build your keywords in your shop, when you build your keywords you build your relevancy and when you're relevant you get sales. You do not want to stuff your keywords in there, but you do want to give good descriptions using keywords that best describe your item repetitively throughout your shop. Not just in your listings, but also in your banner, policies, about section, bio, etc. For instance, on your earrings you have "Jack Beerings" & "Barefoot Sandals" on just 2 listings that I saw, as your listing title. Etsy gives you 140 characters- USE THEM ALL. Both Etsy & Google will be searching your product title-make it good! Read up a little on Search Engine Optimization. You will need to know about this. Google emphasizes their search on your title and your first paragraph-ish (the first few sentences). Etsy searches your title and your keywords when matching you with consumers that are looking for your product. Place your words accordingly.
6.) Your keywords. I'm glad you're using them, but you need to use them to their fullest potential. Stay away from one word keywords. Those have been out for a long time. Search engines (including Etsy's) like to see phrases. This better assists them with putting the right buyers in front of your items. Imagine someone wanting jewelry vs. someone wanting hemp barefoot sandals. If your keyword were only jewelry- people would have a lot of sifting to do to get to your product. By using phrases, it narrows the search with your item having more likelihood to be seen by the right people instead of people searching for a broad category of jewelry. Does that make sense? Also, in one of your listings you have "fun" listed as a keyword. That will get you no where. No where at all. Someone would have to be searching for "fun" for your item to come up. Who would be searching that? Now, they could be searching "fun women's jewelry" & THAT should be an Etsy keyword. You have "hemp" as a keyword. This is the same as "fun". That is too broad. What type of product made of hemp would someone be looking for when they are trying to find a product like yours? Maybe, "summer hem

Yes. You can and should use them all the time. I have so many that I couldn't use them all in every photo. You'll start to notice different hash tags you can use further down the road too. Some product specific, etc. & you can change it up a bit. Like I use #igshop #instashop #onlineshopping . Things that I would search for if I was a shopper or buyer of my product. :)

I just started listing our memorial cards on Etsy and I am struggling with Instagram. Now I understand in an email from Etsy we should be using hashtags. This may sound really dumb but are they listed where the keywords are listed? If not, just where do I put the hash tags to be effective for our site. Livia this is the first I have read any of your comments and I think they are spectacular. Can you look at my Etsy shop and give me some pointers. I would be ever so grateful. Just search on Etsy for SeeYaTomorrow and we should come up.

My Etsy store is easiest to find by using www.CrochetGiftSolutions.com. I believe I have all of the things you have mentioned above: professional photos, use of all 13 tags, sections, various items in each section for the most part, and although my sales have greatly increased from last year, they still aren't as high or as consistent as I'd like.

Maybe we are too diversified? Maybe we aren't diversified enough? We try to have something for everyone -- selling tiaras and crowns, Scarves, beaded jewelry, blankets, and, of course, baby items.

We are on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, although, I confess, I don't use Instagram often, in large part because I can't do it from my computer and I don't fully understand how it works.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am an new Etsy shop owner & I have just opened up my stuff for sale on my own website, as well!

Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/nanasshabyattic4u
My own: http://www.NanasShabyAtTic.com

Open for about 7 weeks now (where I had actual buyable items listed). I have made 1 sale on my personal website, and 3 on Etsy. It has been a lot of work & I have so much learning to do...

The funny thing is, I had never used Instagram before... and when i opened my shop- i figured, why not give it a try. I did not do any research & I still do not understand hashtags.... LOL
although, this post did help me a lot.

I have not really used any of the tags people are posting about, or the ones you listed above. Up until last week, I have been aimlessly using a bunch of randomized hash tags. I did not pay attention to the amount of people who followed each tag or anything (I actually wondered why there was a number next to every hashtag) LOL

I used a lot of hashtags that were related to the handmade items I sell & as I just learned... a lot of hashtags nobody really uses- as I would use my own descriptive words of what my product is.
Examples, #distressedpainted #vintagepainted #thriftstoredecor #chalkpaintobsession etc.
... I thought i was basically, making them up. I used to get angry when words i meshed together didn't turn into a hashtag... it just made no since LOL

I also used a lot of really strange hashtags (although still related)
- for example: #watchmework since I post the step-by-step process in my creations.
- #dumpsterdivingtreasures since I found one of my first pieces beside the dumpster at a construction site! ha
- thriftstorefinds since I had found items at thrift stores and posted them. etc.

My 7th week in and I now have, I believe 1500+ growing followers. I have posted a total of 70 photos to my Instagram.
and after reading this post, I now know exactly how & why I was able to do so without even trying. Its simple really.. & I think most people tend to completely skip that thought, as we are all so involved in trying to create & share "whats in"

I decided to write a blog about it & I am going to share exactly how I got 1500+ Instagram followers without even trying. So, Im not going to share the secret just yet. I will follow up once I have posted it on my website. Or you can just check in & see for yourself :)

http://www.NanasShabyAtTic.com

I am getting a lot of traffic from my Instagram to my Etsy shop too! Still only a few buys, but most of my listings have un-edited descriptions. We all know it's a work in progress. But, I figure its better to get seen & have errors in your description, than to remain unknown!

My next step is to conquer pinterest! been using it for a long time and I loveeee it... But, I have no idea how to get follows or shares. New project, ay!

Favorite for favorite. Love for Love. Share for Share. Tag for Tag. Link for link.

I'd absolutely love too! #NanasShabyAtTic @NanasShabyAtTic via NanasShabyAtTIc.com and NanasShabyAtic4u on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/NanasShabyAtTIc4u

Dear Admin,

I was looking for some information and I came across your website http://www.livandco.com/blog/11-hashtags-etsy-sellers-should-be-using-on-instagram

Great content!

I published an article on dangerous and unsafe toys for kids, that I thought your readers may find it useful.

https://www.swartzlaw.com/summer-2017-unsafe-toys-and-activities-for-kids.html

Every three minutes a child is treated in a U.S. emergency room for a toy-related injury. It’d be great if you would consider sharing this article about unsafe toys on your website.
Either way, thanks for creating and sharing a great resource.
Best regards,
Neel
